Diritti naturali e scelte collettive, pp. 17-43

The essay focuses on the relationship between natural rights and collective choices, both inserted in a discussion of their different meanings within the "liberal traditions". In particular, the libertarian version is investigated, in that it is the most radical position, according to which there is no need to rely upon collective choices to guarantee individual "natural rights". However, in the more complex "global" setting, the debate concerning the legitimating of public or collective choices is less relevant on the traditional production and distribution levels, than in the new context of transnational "natural human rights", and biogenetical or bioethical issues.
