Michael Eckert In order to understand the current situation of philosophy of religion in Germany it is necessary to investigate it in the light of the strong french and english intellectual influences that have reached german philosophy as a whole. The complex status of philosophy of religion due to its being a borderline subject-matter of theology and philosophy must also be investigated taking into account the classical german legacy. This is central also for the religious context. Therefore the scope of the present contribution includes a critical survey of various contemporary german thinkers who are concerned with the philosophy of religion. It also comes to the conclusion that it is necessary to locate current trends in the philosophy of religion inside an inter-cultural perspective
