Il volume presenta il testo teatrale più discusso dello scrittore austriaco Arthur Schnitzler (1862-1931), Reigen / Girotondo / La Ronde, approfondendo nel saggio iniziale l'analisi della gestazione dell'opera sulla base del manoscritto che l'autrice ha ritrovato nella Bibliotheca Bodmeriana di Cologny (Ginevra) e pubblicato per la prima volta presso l'editore Fischer di Francoforte nel 2004. I dieci dialoghi che compongono l'opera sono proposti qui in una nuova traduzione italiana. La fortuna teatrale e i rifacimenti del testo per il palcoscenico, il cinema e il balletto sono illustrati nel saggio conclusivo. Chiude il volume una scelta bibliografica.

This book presents the text of the most controversial play by the Austrian writer Arthur Schnitzler (1862- 1931), Reigen / Girotondo / La Ronde, in the initial text extending the analysis of the gestation of the play on the basis of the manuscript which G. Rovagnati found in the Bibliotheca Bodmeriana of Cologny (Geneva) and published for the first time with Fischer in Frankfurt in 2004. The ten dialogues that make up the work are offered here in a new translation into Italian. The reception of the play in the theater and the revised versions of the text for stage, cinema and ballet are illustrated in the concluding essay. The book closes with a selected bibliography.

Gabriella Rovagnati ha insegnato Storia della Letteratura e Storia del Teatro Tedesco presso l'Università degli Studi di Milano. Autrice di volumi e saggi critici, affianca alla ricerca scientifica un'intensa attività di traduttrice letteraria. Collabora da anni con la Studienstiftung des deutschen Volkes (Bonn) e con la Kulturstiftung der Länder (Berlin). È stata insignita nel 2005 dello Ehrenkreuz fu_r Wissenschaft und Kunst, I. Klasse [Croce d'onore per la Scienza e l'Arte] della Repubblica d'Austria; nel 2006 le è stato conferito il Bundesverdienstkreuz am Bande [Croce al merito con il titolo di Cavaliere] della Repubblica Federale di Germania.

Gabriella Rovagnati has taught History of German Literature and German Theater History at the University of Milan. The author of books and essays, she combines scholarly research with intense activity as a literary translator. She has been collaborating since many years with the Studienstiftung des deutschen Volkes (Bonn) and with the Kulturstiftung der Länder (Berlin). In 2005 she was awarded the Ehrenkreuz fu_r Wissenschaft und Kunst, I. Klasse [Austrian Cross of Honour for Science and Art, First Class] of the Republic of Austria, and in 2006 she was awarded the Bundesverdienstkreuz am Bande [The Cross of Merit with the title of Knight] of the Federal Republic of Germany
