Antigone

Antigone mette in scena uno scontro fra due personaggi. Da una parte, Creonte ed il suo Credo ‘istituzionale’, dall’altra Antigone ed il suo antico legame con la Stirpe: la Ragion di Stato ed una Legge arcana, inderogabile, che gli dèi soltanto possono aver istituito. L’antagonismo rievoca contraddizioni, inquietudini proprie di una città che ha toccato il vertice della talassocrazia, ma che incomincia a sperimentare il decadere dello spirito civico e dei suoi valori. E la ‘Parola’ di Antigone godrà di ampia fortuna, nel caso particolare recepita da una cultura musicale che nei secoli XIX e XX, sul fondamento di ricostruzioni ‘filologiche’, cercherà di ripristinarne non solo i contenuti, ma anche l’antico potere evocativo.

Antigone stages a clash between two characters. On one side stands Creon and his ‘institutional’ Credo, on the other Antigone and her ancient bloodline: political interests and an arcane, inviolable Law, that only the gods could have made. The antagonism thus evokes contradictions, the unsettling qualities of a city that has reached the height of its power at sea but whose civic spirit and very values are starting to wane. Antigone’s “Word” will be far-reaching, in this case in the hands of a musical culture that in the XIXth and XXth century has tried with the tools of ‘philological’ reconstruction to revitalize not only the content, but also the ancient evocative power of the word.

LUIGI BELLONI è professore ordinario di Lingua e Letteratura Greca nell’ Università di Trento. La sua attività di ricerca si è soprattutto rivolta al teatro del V secolo ed alla poesia ellenistica del III secolo. In particolare, alla performance eschilea ed al suo rapporto con i generi letterari coevi; alla poesia di Apollonio Rodio, di Teocrito e agli epigrammi del nuovo Posidippo, quali testimonianze di una docta poesis e della sua variegata memoria letteraria. Si è anche occupato della fortuna dell’Antico in età moderna, studiando alcune riprese ‘classiche’ nella cultura musicale fra Ottocento e Novecento. Dal 1997 è socio della Sezione di Antichistica della Goerres-Gesellschaft.

LUIGI BELLONI is full professor of Greek Language and Literature at the University of Trent. His research interests lie mainly in the areas of fifth-century Greek theater and third-century Hellenistic poetry. In particular, he has studied Aeschylean performance and its relationship to other contemporary literary genres, the poetry of Apollonius of Rhodes and Theocritus, and the new Posidippus epigrams as sources for a docta poesis and their varied literary fortunes. He has also worked on the literary fortunes of antiquity in modern times, examining several “classical” reworkings in nineteenth- and twentieth-century musical culture. Since 1997 he has been a member of the Antiquities Section of the Goerres-Gesellschaft.
